MUSICAL/MOVIE PRODUCTION

School musicals are held at St Ives High School every two years. Students can audition for principal and ensemble roles, dance groups, vocals and the show band. Other roles include stage crew, wardrobe and makeup and sound and lighting.

Rehearsals for the school musical take place after school and on some weekends during the school term.

For many students, participating in the dramatic arts during high school is the only environment where they can express and explore who they are in a safe and non-judgemental way – this is the beginning of their career in the performing arts.

In the past ten years we have produced Pyjama Gang, Grease, Bring It On and Matilda.

As a direct consequence of COVID, the ambitious project of 2021/22 is a parent composed and scripted movie titled PLAN B, which was produced and funded by St Ives High School and St Ives High School P & C.

“PLAN B” THE MOVIE 2021

When singing is banned due to a pandemic, a high school diva in-waiting goes underground and creates her own show choir.”

In reaction to COVID and being unable to guarantee a traditional rehearsal and performance schedule we are filming a movie, shot in contemporary cinematic style.

Using creative solutions and technology we can provide opportunities to celebrate the creative and performance skills of our students with this original 70 minute high school movie musical.

‘Plan B’ is the story of a self-absorbed teen, who matures by discovering what it is to perform selflessly and to connect with her peers positively with respect and acceptance.

There are 100 students involved in the movie as principal actors, dancers, ensemble, crew, in addition to students there is upwards of 30 teachers and parent volunteers coordinating costuming, ticketing, fundraising and all other aspects of production.

“MATILDA” THE MUSICAL 2019

Matilda is a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence and psychokinetic powers.

She’s unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly loveable Miss Honey. Over the course of her first term at school, Matilda and Miss Honey have a profound effect on each other’s lives, as Miss Honey begins not only to recognize but also appreciate Matilda’s extraordinary personality.

Matilda’s school life isn’t completely smooth sailing, however – the school’s mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don’t abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils’ saving grace! Packed with high-energy dance numbers, and catchy songs, Matilda is a joyous girl power romp.

Children and adults alike will be thrilled and delighted by the story of the special little girl with an extraordinary imagination.

“BRING IT ON”
THE MUSICAL 2017

Campbell is cheer-royalty at Truman High School and her senior year should prove the most cheertastic – she’s been named captain of the squad!

But, an unexpected redistricting has forced her to spend her final year of high school at the neighbouring hard-knock Jackson High School. Despite having the deck stacked against her, Campbell befriends the dance crew girls and, along with their headstrong and hardworking leader, Danielle, manages to form a powerhouse squad for the ultimate competition – the National Championships.

Yep. That’s right. Cheerleaders! Hip Hop! Acro! Awesome!
